What Can I Buy With SNAP?

SNAP benefits can be used to buy:

  • Food items at grocery stores, farmers markets and some online retailers.
  • Seeds and plant to grow fruits and vegetables

SNAP cannot be used for: Alcohol, tobacco, pet food, paper products, vitamins or household supplies.

How Does an EBT Card Work?

An Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card works like a debit card to access your SNAP benefits. It will be sent to you in the mail. Once you receive it, you have to set up a PIN. This PIN will be needed each time you purchase food at the grocery store.

Where Can I Use My EBT Card?

Most major grocery stores and USDA-authorized retailers accept EBT cards. Find a list of particiapting retailers here.

When Will I Receive My Benefits? 

If eligible, you will receive your EBT card within 30 days of submitting your application and providing required documents.

Emergency benefits: Some households may qualify for expedited SNAP benefits within 7 days.
