Preparing for your Application Appointment
More In My Basket is committed to helping you navigate the application process and ensure you have the support you need. Below is the information you want to have ready to ensure a complete application during your appointment. Click each box to learn more about the type of information needed.
What to Expect:
During the appointment, our staff will guide you through the SNAP application process. After, you will be mailed two copies of the completed application and a pre-posted envelope with your local Department of Social Services (DSS) address.
In most cases, this is everyone who you live with and buy and cook food with. In certain cases, such as mixed citizen status households the SNAP application household may be different.
This includes recent pay stubs or proof of any other sources of income for all household members, including Social Security, pension, etc. If you are self-employed or an independent contract worker (meal delivery service, Uber, Babysitting, etc.) please have that income information ready as well. If you receive child support (court-ordered or voluntary) please have that information as well.
North Carolina does not have SNAP applicants complete an assets assessment but does ask for information on financial institution accounts. If you have a checking, savings, or retirement account, please provide the approximate amount and the name of the bank you use. The account number is NOT needed.
Information about your monthly expenses, such as rent/mortgage, utilities, and childcare costs.
If you are over 60 years old and/or disabled and actively paying medical bills you should include these with your application. This includes but is not limited to any insurance premiums, prescriptions, and over-the-counter medical supplies, doctor or hospital bills.
