July is Peach Month

Peaches

Peaches are a sure sign that summer has arrived! North Carolina peaches are in season from early June through most of August (1). Great in recipes or enjoyed on their own, peaches are a good source of fiber, Vitamin A, potassium, and other important nutrients (2).

As mentioned in a previous blog, buying produce when it’s in season usually costs less, so it’s a great way to stretch your food budget. If you want to enjoy peach season all year long, stock up when the price is low and preserve by canning or freezing. Contact your local Cooperative Extension Center to learn more about food preservation.

The recipe below is a quick and easy breakfast or a delicious and nutritious afternoon snack.
